About www.veronikalukasova.com

Growing up in communist Czechoslovakia, my formative years were filled with propaganda, fear of nuclear war and atheism. When I was eight, we were made to watch comrade Brezhnev’s funeral on TV. Couple of years after the fall of communism, I found myself at the bosom of our former arch enemy – in Washington DC, United States.  I lived there for twelve years and confronted my contradictory experiences with a camera. I wanted to take a closer look at the events that played a crucial role of the Cold War power struggle. At the same time, I became a regular contributor to The Washington Post Magazine, The New York Times, The Atlantic Monthly, The AARP Bulletin, Lidove Noviny Magazine and others. I am currently based in London, UK, and my work is represented by ZUMA Press.
